This wine explodes on the nose with a fruit salad of peach, nectarine, melon and pear combining with honey, spice and floral notes for an intense and inviting array of aromas. The palate is elegant, dry and concentrated with ripe, tropical and stone fruit flavours and delicious textural creaminess from the wild fermentation. It is a charming mouthful, concluding in a long, smooth finish.

Fragrant notes of passionfruit, ruby red grapefruit and white peach jump out of the glass, followed by hints of lemongrass and thyme. This in-your-face drop captures the essence of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. Concentrated citrusy notes of lime zest, passionfruit and white peach combine with a lick of wet stones. The palate is dry and gives way to a lip-smacking, mouth-watering finish.

It is a rare and outstanding wine that expresses the character of the year in the Laurent-Perrier style. The year 2012 is characterized by successive climatic incidents. Firstly there is the winter frost that makes the vine more sensitive. Then comes the spring frost as well as a dozen hail storms causing considerable damage and affecting many areas of the vineyard. Finally a violent thunderstorm accompanied by strong hail breaks out on the 7th of June and destroys large land areas in the surrounding villages. In spite of these climatic incidents the dry, sunny summer allowed for an exceptional ripening of the grapes.

Leefield Station is a range of wines that celebrate the history of the iconic sheep and beef station located in the heart of the Waihopai Valley. Purchased in 2013 by Marisco Vineyards, the property inspired us to go back to the beginning with our winemaking approach.
