The Private Bin series has been inspired by the McGuigan family tradition to always share a special family wine with their guest. This Shiraz features delightful dark cherry and plum aromas integrated with some smoky vanillin characters and cinnamon from the oak. The wine has a good mouth feel with both cherry and plum flavours with a peppery spice.

Since its inaugural 1962 vintage, Penfolds Bin 128 Coonawarra Shiraz has showcased the elegance and character of one of Australia's finest cool-climate wine regions. Sourced exclusively from Coonawarra's famed terra rossa soils over limestone and matured in French oak hogsheads, it offers a striking contrast to the richer, warmer-climate Shiraz styles for which Penfolds is equally renowned. The 2021 vintage reveals lifted aromas of blue fruits, violets and cracked black pepper unfold alongside mulberry, boysenberry and subtle baking spice, while savoury hints of paprika and cured meats add complexity. The medium-bodied palate is finely structured, balancing dark berry fruit with olives, spice and a seamless line of acidity. Koonunga Hill Shiraz joined the range in 2002, a contemporary reflection of Penfolds multi-regional sourcing philosophy. Penfolds Koonunga Hill Shiraz Cabernet is a reflection of the Penfolds winemaking style and philosophy. Sourced from premium vineyards across South Australia, the wine is known for its full-flavoured style with excellent Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon fruit, firm yet well-rounded structure and balanced oak. Made as a traditional 'Australian blend', the Shiraz component provides fleshy fruit flavour while Cabernet Sauvignon provides a frame of fine grained tannins. Stables Shiraz has generous flavours of pepper, dark berries and plums all beautifully integrated with soft, velvety tannins and spice.

The wine has a wonderful aroma displaying dark plum, redcurrant and red cherry fruits along with subtle chocolate and a touch of oak derived spice. The palate is plump & generous with ripe fruit characters of plum, cherry and redcurrant. Mocha coffee and subtle aniseed characters are also present along with vanillan oak to balance the fruit flavours. The wine is medium-bodied with a soft mid-palate & pleasing tannin structure. It is a well balanced wine with great texture, good length and enjoyable fruit flavours on the finish.
